The Minority in Parliament is accusing government of presenting contradictory facts about how it spent the proceeds from the $1 billion Eurobond.

According to the Minority law makers, government’s explanation on the expenditure of the money does not tally and “untrue.”

Following calls on government to account for the $ 1 billion Eurobond, the Finance Minister, Seth Tekper is reported to have explained that the proceeds are being used to fund the Investment Infrastructure Fund and to pay for infrastructure development that the government has prioritized.

[contextly_sidebar id=”Hj2ur1DJFWwoMEv0ZeIzE1EhVHJQCXuU”]The Minister also explained that the money is being used to fund the Kasoa bypass which is about 37% complete, the Kwame Nkrumah Circle interchange which is about 62% complete, the polo grounds bypass which is about 92% complete and the Ayamfuri road which is about 36% complete.

He pointed out that some of the projects date back to 2010.

But addressing the media in Parliament on Tuesday, the Minority spokesperson on Finance, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei said government’s account of the money “so far does not represent the truth.”

He accused the Finance Minister of muddying the waters by indicating that about $800 million of the funds was being kept in a bank account in New York.

Dr. Akoto Osei claimed that government is unable to give a detailed account of the money because it has misapplied the funds by using it to repay government indebtedness to the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

The Minority Members of Parliament (MPs) are therefore demanding that the President, the Governor of the BoG and the Finance Minister to save Ghanaians the embarrassment from foreign investors by using the funds for its intended purpose.

They are also demanding a Parliamentary inquiry into the matter.
