President John Dramani Mahama has expressed concern over what he terms as the rapid decay of Ghana\u2019s cultural and moral values.<\/p>\n
According to him, Ghana is gradually also losing its traditions and norms.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”K3ZoSLLP7Ojf16kOhATZcxLSWVU23FP5″]Speaking at the National Arts and Culture Festival at the Brong Ahafo region, President Mahama said \u00a0\u201cWe [Ghana] are losing some of our traditions and norms such as respect for the elderly. It is common now to see young people, acting rudely and disrespectfully to their elders.”<\/p>\n
According to him, urbanisation and modernisation has partly contributed to the loss of \u00a0norms and attitudes.<\/p>\n
The situation, he said, is breaking down the extended family structure.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is not uncommon to see today elderly, destitute people standing at street corners and begging for alms, it is not uncommon to see children standing on the street who have no homes to go into.\u201d<\/p>\n
President Mahama is not the first to raise concerns over Ghana\u2019s deteriorating moral standards.<\/p>\n
