We\u2019ve had an outbreak here and it is unprecendented in the Asunafo North \u201d<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;q9d3mSyEUVIV0faa4LB2xbRtVQ3GpQOZ&#8221;]Cholera has claimed over 100 lives with more than 10,000 cases recorded across the country since its outbreak this year.<\/p>\n<p>The Asunafo North Municipal Environmental Health Officer \u00a0attributed the situation to open defecation in the Municipality.<\/p>\n<p>He therefore advised residents in the area to to keep their environment clean to prevent a further spread of the disease.<\/p>\n<p>The Greater Accra region has recorded the highest number of cases so far, but the rate of infection has reduced according to the Ghana Health Service (GHS).<\/p>\n<p>The GHS in a bid to prevent further spread of the disease earlier,<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/09\/02\/cholera-outbreak-ghs-bans-sale-of-food-on-streets\/\">\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\">asked local assemblies to consider banning the sale of food on the street.<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Food vendor however<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/09\/03\/food-vendors-defy-ghs-ban\/\">defied the directive<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>and went on with their normal activities.<\/p>\n<p>The Accra Metropolitan Assembly(AMA), in October, clamped down on about 30 local restaurants, popularly called \u201cchop bars,\u201d operating under unhygienic conditions to prevent a further spread of the cholera disease.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Goaso Government Hospital in the Brong Ahafo region has recorded 94 cholera cases with three deaths in two months despite reports of the drastic reduction in the rate of infection of the past few months.
