The Upper East Regional Manager of the\u00a0National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS)\u00a0Amos Akurugu, has announced the commencement of the much anticipated biometric registration exercise in the region.<\/p>\n
According to him, all the 13 Municipalities and Districts in the Upper East Region have been furnished with the necessary equipment to make the exercise a success.<\/p>\n
He said the new biometric card is a way of addressing data integrity issues, authentication of subscribers by health care providers and also prevent delays in the issuance of ID cards.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”PhpVtOo5PDE3I1D0Y7kmwQTmjLLzGwG6″]The exercise started on Friday December 5, but\u00a0Mr\u00a0Akurugu\u00a0has advised that only those whose cards are near their expiry dates and first time subscribers should to register.<\/p>\n
He also cautioned subscribers whose cards are not near expiry to wait till a month or less to the expiration of their cards before going for the biometric ID card.<\/p>\n
According to the Regional Manager of the Scheme, pregnant women, children under 5 years and the aged will receive special attention.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, there will also be a mobile team that will visit various centers to provide assistance\u00a0 to reduce congestion.<\/p>\n
Mr. Akurugu however noted that the old cards and new biometric\u00a0 ID cards will remain valid and will be accepted at any healthcare facility until the old cards are gradually phased out of the system.<\/p>\n
Deputy Director of management information systems (MIS) at NHIS, Mr. Vitus\u00a0 Kaleo-Bioh said adequate mechanisms have been put in place to address challenges that might arise during the biometric registration.<\/p>\n
