{"id":71139,"date":"2014-12-04T11:54:23","date_gmt":"2014-12-04T11:54:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=71139"},"modified":"2014-12-04T11:54:23","modified_gmt":"2014-12-04T11:54:23","slug":"recent-demos-have-become-too-political-kwesi-pratt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/12\/recent-demos-have-become-too-political-kwesi-pratt\/","title":{"rendered":"Recent demos have become &#8216;too political&#8217; &#8211; Kwesi Pratt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recent demonstrations are poorly patronized because of the partisan nature of organizers, \u00a0Journalist, Kwesi Pratt has said.<\/p>\n<p>Some taxi drivers <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/12\/03\/taxi-drivers-demonstrate-against-government-pictures\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>staged a demonstration<\/strong><\/span><\/a> on Wednesday to register their displeasure over recent fuel price hikes but the turnout at the demonstration was low.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the<strong> Citi Breakfast Show<\/strong>, Kwesi Pratt explained that recent demonstrations are poorly attended because they are not organised to appeal to a cross section of the population.<\/p>\n<p>He recalled that the famous \u2018Kumi Preko\u2019 demonstration was a mass demonstration that cut across the political divide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI recall when we were organising the \u2018Kumi Preko\u2019 demonstration, we made it a point to build it as a mass demonstration, cutting across the political divide and inviting all Ghanaians irrespective of their political affiliation to join.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;PZkEghQcEPE05c8NXrj1j5yKDbDhZArZ&#8221;]\u201cWhen we were organising the Committee for Joint Action(CJA)demonstrations for example we made sure that the very first statement which was read out which was read out was read out by Dr. Omane Boamah, now Minister of Communications because &#8230;we wanted to create the impression that it was not a partisan demonstration&#8230;,\u201d Pratt stated.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Pratt added that the proliferation of the media has offered people an opportunity to express their dissatisfaction with national issues without necessarily resorting to a demonstration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c&#8230;The media outlet is also important. People are able to burn their frustrations, say what they like so there are no burnt up feelings that explode in demonstrations &#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Pratt however stressed that it will be a \u201cgrievous mistake\u201d for government and other stakeholders to underestimate demonstrations simply because the numbers are low.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday I\u2019m sure that if people went on the street to protest &#8216;dumsor&#8217;, &#8216;dumsor&#8217;.
