The Kumasi High Court is expected to hear case \u00a0in which Mr Ibrahim Mahama, a younger brother of President John Dramani Mahama, has sued the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Bernard Antwi-Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi for defamation\u00a0on December 11, 2014<\/p>\n
Ibrahim Mahama\u00a0is seeking GH\u00a22 million in damages.<\/p>\n
Mr. Antwi- Bosiako is said to have accused Mr. Mahama of being a “thief and dishonest man” who together with President Mahama, have been increasing fuel prices and hoarding the proceeds in some banks in South Africa.<\/p>\n
Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, \u00a0in his statement of claim to the Fast Track High Court in Accra, in May said, Chairman Wontumi, made the defamatory comments on March 30, 2014 at a People\u2019s Forum at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.<\/p>\n
According to the plaintiff, the said defamatory statements were made to cause damage to his reputation.<\/p>\n
The plaintiff, who is being represented by Mr Charles William Zwennes, is also seeking a declaration that the defamatory statements made by Mr Antwi-Bosiako were false and malicious.<\/p>\n
Mr. Antwi Bosiako and his lawyer, Mr. Egbert Faibille were not present in court the last time the case was heard [Friday], but Mr. Faibille was represented by Mr. Kwabena Attah.<\/p>\n
He told the court that counsel for defendant was not able to make it to court and asked for an adjournment.<\/p>\n
The presiding judge, Mr Justice Ringo Azumah, upheld the application by counsel for the defendant and adjourned the case to December 11, 2014 for hearing.<\/p>\n
