{"id":6969,"date":"2014-03-18T15:00:51","date_gmt":"2014-03-18T15:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=6969"},"modified":"2014-03-18T15:30:57","modified_gmt":"2014-03-18T15:30:57","slug":"muntaka-accuses-ug-council-of-extortion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/03\/muntaka-accuses-ug-council-of-extortion\/","title":{"rendered":"Muntaka accuses UG council of extortion"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_6987\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6987\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/muntaka.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6987\" alt=\"Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka \" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/muntaka-300x199.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/muntaka-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/muntaka.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6987\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Member of Parliament for Asawase in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Mohammed\u00a0Mubarak Muntaka has accused the University of Ghana Council of abusing Section 3 of the University of Ghana Act.<\/p>\n<p>According to the MP, the management of the University \u00a0are \u00a0misusing the Section 3 provision to extort money from commuters who wish to use the road networks within the university.<\/p>\n<p>He said this when some MPs questioned the University of Ghana&#8217;s decision to close some of its roads to the public on the floor.<\/p>\n<p>The Legon authorities have blocked \u00a0some of its roads to the public allowing access into the campus only through the Okponglo intersection entrance, whereas persons with a UG sticker are allowed entry and exit through all access routes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi News\u2019<\/strong> <em>Parliamentary correspondent<\/em>, Richard Dela Sky reported that the Majority Chief Whip \u00a0was one of those persons who spoke against the Section 3 of University of Ghana Act which according to him, if enforced strictly will likely cause problems.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview on the <strong>Citi Prime News<\/strong>, the Asawase MP recalled that in 2010, when he called for the deletion of the Section from the Act, he faced strict opposition from colleague MPs.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed happiness that his fears about four years ago over the Act have been confirmed with the ongoing matters with the university over the use of its roads.<\/p>\n<p>Alhaji Muntaka also said he is satisfied the Speaker of Parliament \u201chas referred the thing to the leadership, to the Minister of Education and Roads.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to him, he will plead with the Minister of Education to bring back the University of Ghana Act into Parliament for further scrutiny.<\/p>\n<p>MPs also called for an immediate end to the stand-off between the authorities of the University of Ghana, Legon and the general public over the closure of the university roads.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Member of Parliament for Asawase in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Mohammed\u00a0Mubarak Muntaka has accused the University of Ghana Council of abusing Section 3 of the University of Ghana Act.
