<\/a>The Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) has presented a cheque of GHS 300,000 to the Black Stars in support of its campaign in Brazil during the 2014 World Cup.<\/p>\nAccording to the official of the bank, the amount was in fulfilment of a promise made to the team after it qualified for the World Cup and it will help to set up the proposed Ghana village in Brazil.<\/p>\n
After the presentation of the cheque, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, expressed his gratitude to GCB for the gesture.<\/p>\n
“We very much appreciate the move from the bank. As the nation’s foremost local bank, they have shown that they are committed to the development of the country and the Black Stars represent an aspect of our nation’s growth.<\/p>\n
The team is our corporate responsibility and we must all support the players as they go to Brazil.”<\/p>\n
The amount from the bank adds up to the $9 million budget approved by Cabinet on Monday for the team’s World Cup run.<\/p>\n
The Government released $4million for the team’s preparations while the remaining $5 million will be used for the World Cup proper.<\/p>\n
Winning bonuses of $15,000 per victory will be maintained from the last World Cup in South Africa, but the proposed amount of $100,000 in appearance fees was cut down to $75,000 after discussions between the Ghana Football Association, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Government of Ghana.<\/p>\n
Ghana will begin camping for the World Cup in May and start their 3rd straight World Cup appearance with a tie against the United States on the 16th of June in Natal.<\/p>\n
