Government will save some money if it scraps the policy of providing free accommodation for public officers, a former Commissioner of Commission on Human Rights and Adminstrative Justice (CHRAJ) Emile Short has said.

He was commenting on the CHRAJ Boss’, Lauretta Lamptey’s decision to spend about 200,00 dollars on rent alone this year.

[contextly_sidebar id=”AZqNggWtKRgZVAxKPaX0gII4iZRRibFA”]Reports indicate even news of her rent and hotel sparked public outcry, the Commissioner is still lodging at a hotel, where is paying 456 dollars a day.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, Mr. Short advised government to rather pay government officials well enough for them to secure their own accommodation.

“I think that its long overdue, the government should phase out this policy of providing accommodation for public officers and should just pay them their salaries”

“This is what the government should do, I think it will save government a lot of financial resources and it will public officials themselves if they are responsible for their own accommodation,”the former Commissioner maintained.

In a related development, Annoh Dompreh, Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, has asked government to immediately provide alternative accomodation for Madam Lauretta Lamptey, and end her stay at the plush hotel she is currently occupying.

The president has been petitioned to impeach the CHRAJ boss over the cost of her accomodation and her performance. Presdient Mahama has since referred the matter to the Chief Justice.
