{"id":6824,"date":"2014-03-17T17:46:31","date_gmt":"2014-03-17T17:46:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=6824"},"modified":"2014-03-17T17:48:46","modified_gmt":"2014-03-17T17:48:46","slug":"imminent-network-disruptions-as-ericsson-workers-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/03\/imminent-network-disruptions-as-ericsson-workers-strike\/","title":{"rendered":"Imminent network disruptions as Ericsson workers strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Ericsson-Jobs-in-Ghana.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-6828\" alt=\"Ericsson-Jobs-in-Ghana\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Ericsson-Jobs-in-Ghana-291x300.png\" width=\"291\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Ericsson-Jobs-in-Ghana-291x300.png 291w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Ericsson-Jobs-in-Ghana.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 291px) 100vw, 291px\" \/><\/a>Subscribers of MTN, TIGO and Airtel are likely to be hit with network disruptions as workers of Ericsson Ghana begin an indefinite strike over poor conditions of service from today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi Business News<\/strong> has gathered negotiations for better pay begun in April last year.<\/p>\n<p>Over 16 meetings have so far been held between management and the workers union since April last year to address the matter but all the meetings have so far ended in a stalemate.<\/p>\n<p>Ericsson Ghana offers support services to MTN, TIGO and Airtel.<\/p>\n<p>It provides field maintenance and ensures transmissions from their cell sites.<\/p>\n<p>The indefinite strike by workers of Ericsson means these telcos will be left hanging if they should face any network challenges.<\/p>\n<p>But the divisional chairman of the telecommunications workers union of Ericsson Ghana Ernest Kojo Apraku says various meetings held with management of the company over their poor conditions of service has not yielded any positive results.<\/p>\n<p>He tells Citi Business News management of Ericsson has shown bad faith during negotiations hence its decision to begin an indefinite strike from today.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Management is not taking the negotiations seriously, so we will embark on the strike indefinitely.<\/p>\n<p>Most of us are not being paid the commensurate rate for what we do and we have said in our proposal that they should increase the base pay of the Ghanaian local staff by 25 percent because of issues of transportation and accommodation.<\/p>\n<p>They have consistently said they can\u2019t afford anything so we should accept that but we have said they can put in some capital injection and this is unfair.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Management is yet to respond to the development and workers are currently clothed in red at the company\u2019s premises.<\/p>\n<p>The company does not only serve clients in Ghana its offers support services for telecom operations across Africa as well.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Vivian Kai Mensah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Subscribers of MTN, TIGO and Airtel are likely to be hit with network disruptions as workers of Ericsson Ghana begin an indefinite strike over poor conditions of service from today.
