The Ghana\u00a0 police has cautioned Ghanaians who\u00a0have resorted to attacking\u00a0workers of the \u00a0Electricity Company of Ghana \u00a0(ECG) over the current load-shedding exercise to desist from such acts.<\/p>\n
This\u00a0follows reports of attacks on some workers of the ECG in Nsuta near Mampong over the erratic power outages \u00a0in the area.<\/p>\n
Similar incidents have been recorded in Accra and Tema and the Police have revealed that they have intelligence report that there are plans of more of such attacks.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”8Clbf2SxmClLD5cFMOslZTSMZqrOHmlm”]Speaking on Eyewitness News<\/strong>\u00a0Commander of the Special Forces, Chief Superintendent Hamza Yakubo said: \u201cWe do not think that somebody or\u00a0 government will deliberately want to put its citizens in darkness as we are all suffering\u00a0 from the power outage,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n He \u00a0further \u00a0advised people not to take the law in their own hands, \u00a0adding that \u201clets us all try in our own small way to listen to the advice given by ECG on how we should conserve power so that we can all help government to remedy this situation.\u201d<\/p>\n Chief Superintendent Yakubo described\u00a0 the attacks on ECG workers as \u00a0unfortunate incidents.<\/p>\n He then revealed that they have had confirmation that residents in Kumasi are planning a demonstration on Saturday against the ECG.<\/p>\n He said the police will prevent the said demonstration because they \u00a0failed to give notice to the Police.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat we are doing is to ensure that whenever we receive information about any threat we will quickly move in to prevent such incident,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n He disclosed that there has been numerous attacks in different parts of the country including Accra in Lapaz.<\/p>\n He therefore called on ECG officials to report any attack and give information to the police<\/p>\n In a related development an appointment made by a new managerial appointment at the ECG<\/strong><\/a><\/span> has been met with fierce opposition as workers of the Tema branch of the ECG caused mayhem on Friday.<\/p>\n
