The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr Seth Tekper, has said\u00a0that the government of Ghana is constructing additional 23 new Senior High Schools (SHS) under the Secondary Education Improvement Project.<\/p>\n
He made this statement when presenting the 2015 Budget and Economic Statement before Ghana\u2019s parliament.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”kmjt3zZH7FJ4QnBadO0n5y8UdIgfoKFr”]According to the minister, the construction of the additional 23\u00a0buildings meant for senior high school education is part of government\u2019s agenda to provide quality education for secondary school students.<\/p>\n
Speaking before members of parliament on Wednesday \u2013 November 19, 2014 \u2013 the minister said\u00a0that the 2015 budget has made provision for the construction of the additional\u00a023 school buildings.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnder the World Bank supported Secondary Education Improvement Project (SEIP), an additional 23 new Senior High Schools are being constructed. This means therefore that so far funding has been secured for 123 out of the promised 200 Senior High Schools,\u201d the minister stated.<\/p>\n
According to Mr Terkper, \u201cPresident Mahama\u2019s agenda for quality, accessible, equitable, and affordable education remains on course,\u201d that explains why the construction of the additional twenty-three school buildings has been captured in the budget.<\/p>\n
Delivering his statement, he pointed out that the president remains confident of meeting his target by 2016 in line with prudent fiscal policy that all major capital projects must be fully funded before they are started.<\/p>\n
