Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Kweku Baako Jnr has charged pressure group OccupyGhana to investigate the activities of Parliament, the Attorney General\u2019s Department and the Divestiture Implementation Committee.<\/p>\n
According to him, a lot of corrupt deals could be uncovered if the group remains focused in its mandate to expose and rid the society of corruption.<\/p>\n
\u201cLook elsewhere; Parliament and their committees; check them\u2026take a critical look at them. The Attorney General\u2019s Department and the things they do; take a good look at them. The Divestiture Implementation Committee,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”cQ7jnamh8AhTt3ptoqSrUQVlEklFWMeV”]OccupyGhana last week issued a 30-day ultimatum to the Auditor General (AG)<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>to recover state funds which were illegally paid to some individuals or be sued.<\/p>\n In response, the Auditor General said it will not entertain pressure<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>from any individual or organization in the discharge of its duties.<\/p>\n But OccupyGhana has indicated it is not perturbed by the AG\u2019s indifference to recover lost state funds since it has the backing of the law on the matter.<\/p>\n Speaking at the second and final edition of OccupyGhana\u2019s public forum geared towards engaging the minds of Ghanaians to fight corruption, Kweku Baako Jnr offered to help the group to undertake a comprehensive research into the operations of state institutions which may be causing the nation to lose money.<\/p>\n He directed that particular attention must be paid to the Divestiture Implementation Committee because \u201cyou cannot believe what has happened in that sector since 1989.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cEven if some of them cannot be prosecuted or we cannot recover, at least it will deepen our insight into how we have actually plunged down the resources of this country, how we sometimes hide behind middle men to buy shares and we don\u2019t pay. It\u2019s amazing\u2026\u201d he said.<\/p>\n The ace journalist remarked that OccupyGhana has the ability to create change in the Ghanaian society that is why \u201csome of us have decided to come out of retirement and join this powerful advocacy group.\u201d<\/p>\n He observed that there is an attempt by some individuals to \u201cbastardize this group; there is an attempt to draw it into direct, crude type of partisan politics. This group must reject it.\u201d<\/p>\n He threw an open invitation to the geenaral public to be part of OccupyGhana because \u201cit doesn\u2019t matter which political party or divide a person comes from. If you identify corruption as something that is actually killing this nation, you could all be part of this group.\u201d<\/p>\n Kweku Baako Jnr advised the group to have a certain courage of conviction and trust themselves.<\/p>\n \u201cThere is a lot that this group can do and should do.
