{"id":6499,"date":"2014-03-16T09:15:17","date_gmt":"2014-03-16T09:15:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=6499"},"modified":"2014-03-16T09:15:17","modified_gmt":"2014-03-16T09:15:17","slug":"adomi-bridge-closure-gha-officials-visit-ferry-sites","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/03\/adomi-bridge-closure-gha-officials-visit-ferry-sites\/","title":{"rendered":"Adomi bridge closure: GHA officials visit ferry sites"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/ferry.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-6500\" alt=\"ferry\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/ferry-300x182.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/ferry-300x182.jpg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/ferry.jpg 530w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The management of Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has visited the Senchi and Akrade ferry sites in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region, to assess their operations since the commencement of the service.<\/p>\n<p>The GHA recently launched two ferries \u201cSenchi\u201d and \u201cAkrade\u201d to carry vehicles and passengers across the Volta River following the closure of the Adomi Bridge on Monday, March 10.<\/p>\n<p>The tour by the GHA officials evaluated the status of operation of the two ferries from the time when they began operations.<\/p>\n<p>Norbert B. Quarmor, Director of Public Affairs of the GHA, told the media the team visited the sites to enable the Authority put in place the necessary measures to improve service delivery.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Authority is also considering reviewing the fares on the ferry because government intends to take up the replacement cost.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Quarmor noted that currently, all vehicles and motorcycles that use the ferries are to pay the fares except diplomatic vehicles, security agencies and ambulances.<\/p>\n<p>He said the GHA has built resting points and sanitary facilities for commuters at both Senchi and Old Akrade ferry sites adding that the Authority has also provided solar street lights and security to ensure the safety of commuters.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, each ferry can carry 200 passengers in addition to 300 tons of cargo, have a first aid box and live jackets for emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Quarmor said for now, the GHA is estimating to use the two ferries for 24 months on the Volta River until the completion of the Adomi Bridge project.<\/p>\n<p>He said because the Authority have provided alternative routes through Sogakope-Adidome to Ho Management do not expect much traffic to build-up at the Senchi ferry site.<\/p>\n<p>Kwame Adjei, HAG Consult the local representative for Janson Bridging of Holland, the main contractor for assembling the ferries stated that so far the operations of the two vessels have been smooth.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source: GNA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The management of Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has visited the Senchi and Akrade ferry sites in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region, to assess their operations since the commencement of the service.
