{"id":64391,"date":"2014-11-12T16:00:44","date_gmt":"2014-11-12T16:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=64391"},"modified":"2014-11-12T19:41:06","modified_gmt":"2014-11-12T19:41:06","slug":"transparent-fuel-pricing-attafuah-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/11\/transparent-fuel-pricing-attafuah-govt\/","title":{"rendered":"Be transparent with fuel pricing \u2013 Attafuah to Gov\u2019t"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A former Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), John Attafuah, has challenged the Authority to be transparent with the petroleum pricing formula to defuse the suspicions of Ghanaians over the formula.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He asked the management of the NPA publish the right formula for calculating the prices of petroleum products.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">His comment follows reports that <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/11\/10\/will-reduce-fuel-prices-npa\/\" target=\"_blank\">crude oil prices in the international market had dropped<\/a><\/strong><\/span> significantly for some time now.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;u3pcTWeHiW6Uah8BaM3IxcX2jDRKQ2ec&#8221;]But the NPA says\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/11\/10\/will-reduce-fuel-prices-npa\/\" target=\"_blank\">Prices of petroleum products will not be reduced<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in the next price review.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/11\/12\/npa-must-reduce-fuel-prices-now-minority\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Dominic Nitiwul has embarked on a crusade<\/strong><\/a><\/span> to compel the government to reduce fuel prices drastically, as crude oil prices on the international market hit a four-year low.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking in an interview with <strong>Citi News,<\/strong> the former NPA boss insisted the NPA should come clean on its pricing formula.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He indicated that petroleum pricing must be &#8220;as transparent as possible. When we become transparent, then Ghanaians do not need the NPA to tell them where the price should be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Attafuah advised the NPA to be \u201cas transparent as possible with the consumer. Let them know everything that goes in [and] let them know everything that comes out and once that happens, the NPA itself will not need to intervene when it comes to pricing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Authority, Yaro Kasambata in an interview on<strong> Citi Prime News<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>explained that government had cushioned &#8220;the consumer in times past when the crude oil prices was going up&#8221; adding that &#8220;We have accumulated some debts owed the Bulk Distribution Companies (BDC) and so now we are taking advantage of the reduction on the world market so that we can settle that debt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAs we speak, the debt is a little over 400 million so that is why the position is the way it is.
