There seems to be renewed tension between management of MODEC, operators of the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah and Ghanaian workers of the company, days after they called off their strike.
\nThis follows the refusal of the workers to sign onto an undertaking to be of good behavior before they are allowed back onto the rig.
\nThe 40 workers laid down their tools on October 29, in protest against pay disparities between expatriates and locals on the rig.
\nAfter a 3 day standoff between officials of Modec and the workers union , the General Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress called off the strike.
\nMODEC Ghana Limited, in a letter described as illegal the strike by the Ghanaian workers stating that they embarked on the strike \u201cwithout notice and without cause in complete disregard to section 159 and 160 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651).
\nAccording to the General Secretary of the workers union Iddrisu Fuseni,” we met and signed an MOU , we agreed on a certain roadmap to follow.”
\nAccording to him , all parties must respect the Memorandum of Understanding signed to resolve the concerns of workers.
\n“it looks as if we are not religiously going by the content of the MOU that we signed”, he lamented.
\nThe General Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union is expected to formally write to Modec before close of day November 10 to register their opposition to the signing of the undertaking.
\n“the union thinks it is not in order, we are writing a letter to management to denounce what they are saying”, Iddrisu Fuseni stressed.<\/p>\n
