{"id":63395,"date":"2014-11-09T14:10:51","date_gmt":"2014-11-09T14:10:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=63395"},"modified":"2014-11-09T14:32:21","modified_gmt":"2014-11-09T14:32:21","slug":"azorka-retains-nr-ndc-chairman-position","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/11\/azorka-retains-nr-ndc-chairman-position\/","title":{"rendered":"Azorka retains N\/R NDC chairman position"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Incumbent Northern Regional Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Sofo Azorka has retained his position with an overwhelming victory.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At the end of the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/11\/08\/northern-region-ndc-congress-underway\/\" target=\"_blank\">regional delegates congress held on Saturday<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in Tamale supervised by the Electoral Commission, he polled 246 out of the 339 total votes cast.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Five other candidates competed with Chief Azorka in the chairmanship race but the delegates retained him to continue from where he left off.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;VcQOHkASpRaGcP0ZCYVOaIhTUhqt1Yfq&#8221;]His contenders, Alhaji Abdulai Ibrahim Mobila trailed behind with 63 votes while Alhaji Iddi Kpenaa secured 21 votes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The rest, Alhaji Ibrahim Libron secured only one vote and Alhassan Alhaji Mohammed Sumani had three votes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Joseph Amuzu won the Vice Chairman position with 161 votes and the incumbent regional women\u2019s organizer, Madam Olivia Yahaya stood unopposed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Abdul Mumin Alhassan Fuseini won the Propaganda Secretary with 178 votes and Dramani Bukari Ecomog won the Deputy Propaganda Secretary with 161 votes.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_63316\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-63316\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Azorka-boys.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-63316\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Azorka-boys.jpg\" alt=\"Azorka boys\" width=\"600\" height=\"491\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Azorka-boys.jpg 600w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Azorka-boys-300x245.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-63316\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Azorka boys<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A former District Chief Executive for the Central Gonja District and a law student, Salisu De-Awuribe secured 212 votes as the Deputy Regional Secretary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Alhaji Osman Musah was elected as Deputy Regional Organizer with 183 votes while Alhaji Mohammed Amid Baba won the Deputy Treasurer position with 110 votes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Abdul Mumin Abdul Karim won the Deputy Youth Organizer position with 65 votes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">All of them, with the exception of the elected Regional Organizer, Godfred A. Wumbei, whose victory was declared null and void, were sworn into office by the NDC\u2019s General Secretary, Johnshon Asiedu Nketiah.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Godfred A. Wumbei, a close associate of the NDC founder, Jerry John Rawling polled 196 votes but one of his contenders, Abubakari Abdul Mumuni challenged the results on grounds that his name was spelt wrongly on the ballot paper.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This informed Johnson Asiedu Nketiah\u2019s decision to declare the regional organiser results null and void pending investigations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Congress ended peacefully and supporters of the victors rejoiced over night.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, the NDC\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/11\/06\/ndc-dragged-court\/\" target=\"_blank\">will go to court on November 16<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to battle a suit filed against it by two members of the party contending the Northern Regional Secretary and Organizer positions but were disqualified.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The party in the region <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/11\/08\/nr-ndc-suspends-two-positions-court-case\/\" target=\"_blank\">suspended the two positions<\/a><\/strong><\/span> prior to their congress on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Abdul Karim Naatogmah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Incumbent Northern Regional Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Sofo Azorka has retained his position with an overwhelming victory.
