The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of TUC has relieved four of its national executives of their post for being convicted for various criminal charges.<\/p>\n

The four; Alhaji Yaw Manu (Kumasi), Kwame Kumah (Cape Coast), Benjamin Kwesi Ansah (Takoradi), and Stephen K. Okudzeto (Acccra) were sentenced to one day imprisonment with a cost of GHc1, 000 by a Sekondi court in the Western Region presided over by his lordship Justice Nicholas C. A. Agbevor J on May 22, 2014 and on June 8, 2012, respectively.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”m3u7xUHIb1UBfYiUg6FIGdlr1laJ21Qg”]According to the union per Article 13(h) of their laws, \u201cany member who has been convicted on criminal offense shall be disqualified from contesting election. If the fact of the criminality is established after election, such person(s) shall automatically be removed from office and a report made to the appropriate level of authority.\u201d<\/p>\n

They claimed four months down the line, the directive has not been adhered to adding that the four used their positions in to prevent the second highest decision making body of the union, the National Executive Council, from enforcing the law.<\/p>\n

In a press release copied to citifmonline.com<\/strong>, the union has resolved to disqualify the four convicted officers from holding on to any position and also bar them from continuing in their current positions with immediate effect.<\/p>\n

\u2018In furtherance to that, that each of the officers surrenders any union property or properties in their procession to the national secretariat of the union immediately,\u201d the release stated.<\/p>\n
