{"id":56853,"date":"2014-10-16T07:04:57","date_gmt":"2014-10-16T07:04:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=56853"},"modified":"2014-10-16T07:47:19","modified_gmt":"2014-10-16T07:47:19","slug":"occupy-protestors-to-sue-auditor-attorney-generals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/10\/occupy-protestors-to-sue-auditor-attorney-generals\/","title":{"rendered":"Occupy protestors to sue Auditor, Attorney Generals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The organisers of the Occupy Flagstaffhouse protests, say they are considering taking legal action against the Auditor-General and the Attorney-General to court, for failing \u00a0to retrieve state funds which were illegally paid to some individuals.<\/p>\n<p>The supreme court, in July, ruled that businessman, Alfred Agbesi Woyome was to\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/07\/29\/supreme-court-orders-woyome-to-refund-gh%C8%BC51-2m\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>refund\u00a0Gh\u023b 51.2 million<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0to the state.<\/p>\n<p>And though the Auditor General&#8217;s office had\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/08\/12\/a-g-chases-woyome-gh%E2%82%B551-million\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>initiated\u00a0moves to recover<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0the funds in August, no progress has apparently been made.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_56856\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-56856\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Woyome3-600x330.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-56856\" alt=\"Alfred Agbesi Woyome\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Woyome3-600x330.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Woyome3-600x330.jpg 600w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Woyome3-600x330-300x165.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-56856\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alfred Agbesi Woyome<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;LNIL5xw9vAEom2uv1Y2LHlmhV3CT3Cli&#8221;]According to the lead organiser of the movement, Nana Akwasi Awuah, the failure of the Auditor General to retrieve the funds is unacceptable as he is &#8220;empowered to disallow expenditure that is unlawful and surcharge whichever public official that authorised the expenditure.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The group hit the streets\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/07\/01\/deputy-chief-of-staff-receives-occupyflagstaffhouse-petition\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">on Republic Day<\/span><\/a><\/strong> and the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/07\/07\/weekly-red-friday-demo-to-hit-govt\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>Red Friday campaign<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/span> and planned a second protest which was <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/09\/21\/occupyflagstaffhouse2-protest-postponed-indefinitely\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>subsequently called off<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_28513.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-56854 aligncenter\" alt=\"IMG_28513\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_28513.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_28513.jpg 640w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_28513-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Responding to claims that they have \u00a0failed to sustain their initial pressure on government, Nana Akwasi Awuah insisted that the Occupy Ghana movement was continuing their pursuit of better governance in the country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We at Occupy Ghana believe in the rule of law and we will critically analyse all the avenues afforded us by law to pursue our objective of demanding good governance,&#8221;
