{"id":56441,"date":"2014-10-15T05:20:48","date_gmt":"2014-10-15T05:20:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=56441"},"modified":"2014-10-15T06:44:38","modified_gmt":"2014-10-15T06:44:38","slug":"govt-employing-apartheid-tactics-against-us-state-attorneys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/10\/govt-employing-apartheid-tactics-against-us-state-attorneys\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov\u2019t employing &#8216;apartheid&#8217; tactics against us \u2013 State Attorneys"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>State Attorneys in the Upper West region have accused government of deliberately refusing to pay their outstanding allowances.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy State Attorney in the Upper West region, Sahid Abdul Shakul on<strong>\u00a0Eyewitness News\u00a0<\/strong>said though government had settled the arrears of State Attorneys in the Greater Accra region, it has not made any move to pay that of those in the Upper West region.<\/p>\n<p>He described the situation as an apartheid tactic being employed by government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c&#8230;Our colleagues in Accra have been paid their entire allowance and that suggests that there is an apartheid system in the Attorney General\u2019s Department&#8230;if you can decide to pay all the attorneys in Accra, it suggests that the rest of us are the insignificant minority,\u201dhe fumed.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;OHvOaYTlTds86HXXEc4fOcDqrASOVHYg&#8221;]He said the Attorneys in the region are planning to lay down their tools if government fails to address their grievances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are planning on laying down our tools. Its so painful, its so regrettable&#8230;Somebody ought to listen to us. We are not asking for any increment, we are not asking for any other thing, we just asking for what is due us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Shakul, the only region that has so far received its due over the past months is the Greater Accra region<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur allowances that are due us have not been paid and nobody is saying something about it which makes it more painful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers in the Attorney Generals Department in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region and the Ashanti Region recently\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/08\/govt-lawyers-in-sunyani-declare-indefinite-strike\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"> declared an indefinite strike<\/span><\/strong><\/a> over the non-payment of their accrued allowances in the last two years.<\/p>\n<p>They said \u201cthe issuance of several petitions and notices for the [payment of these] monies yielded no results, not even acknowledgement of the petitions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Government in a bid to settle the grievances of the lawyers on Saturday held talks with them to <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">convince them to suspend their strike.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The meeting sought to<a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/08\/govt-lawyers-in-sunyani-declare-indefinite-strike\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong> negotiate with the striking lawyers<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, to avoid any disruptions in delivery of justice in the two regions.<\/p>\n<p>It appears the meeting was inconclusive.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>State Attorneys in the Upper West region have accused government of deliberately refusing to pay their outstanding allowances.
