Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Ohene Ntow, is threatening to release damaging secret audio recordings of top party chiefs who have admitted at meetings that Nana Akufo-Addo cannot win the 2016 general elections.

He said he has tape recordings of some national executives and other leading NPP members who have publicly declared their support for two-time presidential candidate, Nana Addo.

Ohene Ntow, who is also the spokesperson for Nana Addo’s closest contender, Alan Kyeremanten, served notice that he is not making mere allegations but they are backed by facts and evidence.

[contextly_sidebar id=”X0f0itX9PzJXnSKcqdA0cEJaahWuPO9k”]“I do have it, it does exist but it wasn’t something that I was keen on putting out. I just don’t talk, I have a lot of reputation and I have my good name to protect,” he remarked.

He stressed that “it is not a just a game in which I want to embarrass anybody but I think there is something strange happening in NPP…”

He however refused to mentioned names saying, “I’m not going to mention names unless I’m ready to put out the tape. I will put it out but I will not preempt it.”

The NPP is preparing to head to the polls on October 18 to elect a flagbearer who will lead the party into the 2016 general elections.

The party has been in opposition for eight years after failing to maintain power in 2008 and also, losing the 2012 elections with Nana Addo as its presidential candidate.

Although the party sought to overturn the results of 2012 general elections at the Supreme Court, the ruling on the election petition case declared the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) candidate, President John Mahama the winner of the elections.

There is fierce competition between the camps of Nana Addo and Alan Kyeremanten ahead of the party’s October 18 congress; a situation some believe is causing division within the party.

The competition intensified after the party’s Super Delegates Congress in August reduced the number of flagbearer aspirants from seven to five.

Although two out of the final five candidates bowed out of the race, Kyeremanten and Francis Addai-Nimohrefused to step down for Nana Addo who won the super delegates’ congress by over 81% of the total valid votes cast.

The results were interpreted to mean Nana Addo was the preferred candidate therefore, it was needless for a final congress to be organized.

A lot of leading members of the NPP have openly declared their support for Nana and most of the aspirants who were either eliminated or bowed out of the race have thrown their weight behind him as well.

This has however not deterred the two remaining candidates from staying in the race although they asked for more time to campaign ahead of the national congress.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, Ohene Ntow expressed shock at party members who are backing Nana Addo to contest the flagbearership position unopposed.

“I am a bit surprised that we send one candidate to an election; 2008, he couldn’t make it, there was a second round, he couldn’t make it, 2012, he couldn’t make it and a lot of party executives and leaders are now clamouring that that same person should even be sent unopposed and it surprises me,” he said.

Ohene Ntow insisted that the tape recording does exist “and at the right time, I will let everybody hear this tape and they will know that what I’m talking about is true.”
