The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has subtly thrown his weight behind the incumbent National Chairman, Dr Kwabena Adjei, ahead of the party’s upcoming congress.

According to him, Dr Adjei has a proven track record of discharging diligently, duties assigned him, adding that he has had a long standing relationship with Dr Adjei “even before he became the National Chairman and it will continue even after his chairmanship.”

Dr. Adjei launched his campaign to be re-elected on Wednesday.

[contextly_sidebar id=”KmOWtrTxW2x0rGF3KC2SYQNi3ySP1Txj”]The NDC is warming up to elect national executives to lead the party in the upcoming 2016 general elections.

Some of the party’s leading personalities challenging Dr. Kwabena Adjei, are Kofi Portuphy, National Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization, Alhaji Huudu Yahaya, a former General Secretary of NDC and Dan Kwasi Abodakpi, former Ghana’s Ambassador to Malaysia and former Member of Parliament for Keta.

Speaking at the campaign launch, the incumbent General Secretary of the NDC, Asiedu Nketia said: “On my way here somebody said, ‘are you going to endorse Dr Kwabena Adjei?’ I said, Dr Kwabena Adjei doesn’t need my endorsement, he is an endorsement in himself, because your records will speak for you.”

He however assured that his doors are open to any candidate who wants him to be at their campaign launch but warned “I will be available but I will come with the records I know about that person and then relate those records.”

He also urged delegates of the party in their upcoming congress to ensure they vote for candidates who are willing and ready to work.

According to him, “the party at this stage needs dedicated and loyal leaders to retain it in power come 2016.”

He said: “At the end of the day, the exercise we are engaging in is to find the right kind of people to run the affairs of the party so we can retain power. It is not about how much you can give to delegates, it is not about what you expect to receive from them but who can help us retain power.”

“So as you go to the polls, let that be at the back of your minds,” he told the fans at the campaign launch.

Meanwhile, the party’s regional and constituency elections have been meet with a number of issues of which some have resulted in legal suits.
