The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has licensed Unicorn Air Chartered Services to begin commercial operations in the country.

Unicorn Air, a subsidiary of UHI Holdings is to provide chartered air travel services in Ghana’s aviation sector.

The airline will start operations with its HS-125 800XP aircraft, after undergoing the certification for the Air Operators Certificate (AOC) in fulfillment of the GCAA’s requirements.

Explaining the nature of their operations to citifmonline.com, the Chief Executive Officer of Unicorn Air, George Afful said, “you don’t need to be time bound. As and when you want to travel, when you contact us within the next 20 minutes, we will make the aircraft available for you.”

“If you want to travel within the next one hour, you call us, we will make the aircraft available,” he added.

[contextly_sidebar id=”9j86ognXsp9WG7WZKOYLMMT8KM1I3Vof”]The airline operator would also offer ancillary adhoc services such as medical evacuation, sports charter, and business executive charter among other service.

The airline has been licensed to ply all local and international routes, however, presently, Unicorn Air has only one aircraft.

Afful has given the assurance that as business progresses, more aircrafts will be acquired.

“That will be the little challenge but we have other available arrangements where if our existing aircraft is booked, we will make another aircraft available for whoever wants our service,” he said.

He stressed that the vision of the company is to double its fleets within the next three years.

According to him, Unicorn Air has entered into a partnership with some foreign airline operators to supply them with aircrafts.

He assured that their services will be affordable explaining that “affordability comes with convenience and so if you want to have any business meeting anywhere and you can call us and in the next 20 minutes, an aircraft is ready for you, I think it should be affordable.”

Presenting the air carrier license to Unicorn Air, the acting Director General of the GCAA, Abdulai Alhassan admonished the company to abide by the terms and conditions of the agreement.

He pointed out that the license was not acquired on a “silver platter,” disclosing that the GCAA took Unicorn through rigorous screening “and we have satisfied ourselves that they have met all the legal requirements.”
