{"id":54061,"date":"2014-10-07T05:30:05","date_gmt":"2014-10-07T05:30:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=54061"},"modified":"2014-10-06T21:29:28","modified_gmt":"2014-10-06T21:29:28","slug":"dissolve-nss-board-now-fgj-urges-mahama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/10\/dissolve-nss-board-now-fgj-urges-mahama\/","title":{"rendered":"Dissolve NSS board now \u2013 FGJ urges Mahama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The pressure group, Forum for Governance and Justice (FGJ) is urging president John Mahama to immediately dissolve the Governing Board\u00a0of the National Service scheme (NSS) over the corruption scandal that has hit the scheme.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the group, members of the board cannot absolve themselves from the recent rot discovered at the secretariat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Investigations initiated on the scheme by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) indicate that about GHC7.9 million was paid to 22,612 non-existent national service persons in more than 100 districts in July 2014.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;EGH7xqHmvG2uJFxctxe5yz9xuOZZFqxS&#8221;]According to the findings, the NSS Director, Ahaji Alhassan allegedly <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/03\/rot-at-nss-director-tried-to-influence-case-with-gh%C2%A2100000\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">tried to bribe the investigators<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> a sum of about GH\u00a2100,000\u00a0in an attempt to\u00a0silence the BNI team.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The publication of the findings has generated public outcry with many people calling for an expedite action against the indicted officials.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Friday, however, the Governing Board of the scheme, after an emergency meeting directed the Executive Director of the NSS, <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/03\/nss-boss-indicted-officials-ordered-to-go-home\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">Alhaji Alhassan Imoro and all other indicted officials to step down<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> to pave way for further investigations to go on.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But Speaking to <b>Citi News<\/b> the Director of Communications for the FGJ Robert Afulimi, insisted that President Mahama must \u201cas a matter of urgency dissolve the governing board as some members of the board may have been partners or beneficiaries of the whole looting caboodle which is still under investigations. This will further facilitate transparency in investigations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe board itself is not clean on these matters\u2026we can\u2019t also allow the board of the national service secretariat to also be seen working or taking over the operations of the NSS since they are either not clean in this whole scandal,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile a member of the board Isaac Annan Riverson has rejected accusations seeking to implicate them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">in an interview with <strong>Citi News <\/strong>Mr.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Riverson <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/06\/mahama-ordered-nss-investigations-board-member\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>challenged any individual or group with evidence<\/strong><\/span><\/a> of the board\u2019s involvement in the corruption scandal to submit it to the BNI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf he has any evidence that any board member who profited from this scandal in anyway, let them come out and say it!\u201d he fumed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A former board member of the NSS told<strong> Citi News<\/strong> earlier that the current corruption scandal that has hit the scheme <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/03\/rot-at-nss-director-tried-to-influence-case-with-gh%C2%A2100000\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">had existed for over a decade<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Godwin Allotey Akweiteh\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The pressure group, Forum for Governance and Justice (FGJ) is urging president John Mahama to immediately dissolve the Governing Board\u00a0of the National Service scheme (NSS) over the corruption scandal that has hit the scheme.
