{"id":53765,"date":"2014-10-05T18:37:29","date_gmt":"2014-10-05T18:37:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=53765"},"modified":"2014-10-05T18:37:29","modified_gmt":"2014-10-05T18:37:29","slug":"juventus-snatch-late-win-over-roma-in-thriller","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/10\/juventus-snatch-late-win-over-roma-in-thriller\/","title":{"rendered":"Juventus snatch late win over Roma in thriller"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Leonardo Bonucci&#8217;s 86th minute stunner saw\u00a0Juventus\u00a0snatch a thrilling victory as they beat\u00a0Roma\u00a03-2 in a contest that also saw Alvaro Morata and Konstantinos Manolas sent off late on.<\/p>\n<p>A top-of-the-table clash between two teams boasting\u00a0five league wins from five promised much and there was certainly no shortage of drama\u00a0at Juventus Stadium on Sunday, with\u00a0referee Gianluca Rocchi awarding\u00a0three penalties &#8211; two to Juve and one to Roma &#8211;\u00a0in a first half that ended 2-2.<\/p>\n<p>It appeared as though both teams would have to settle for a point apiece, but Bonucci then found the net in magnificent fashion with four minutes of normal time remaining, volleying past\u00a0Lukasz Skorupski from 20 yards\u00a0to break Roma hearts.<\/p>\n<p>Juve substitute Morata and Roma defender Manolas were\u00a0dismissed\u00a0in the closing stages as Rocchi once again found himself at the centre of the action, but the reigning\u00a0champions\u00a0were able to hold on and claim a fifth successive home win against the capital club.<\/p>\n<p>Carlos Tevez twice scored from 12 yards in the first half following contentious decisions from Rocchi, who also sent Roma coach Rudi Garcia to the stands,\u00a0but the Argentine forward&#8217;s two penalties sandwiched a\u00a0Francesco Totti spot-kick and Juan Iturbe&#8217;s 44th-minute strike for the visitors.<\/p>\n<p>The second half initially provided fewer incidents of note, only to come to life in the closing stages.<\/p>\n<p>Morata headed against the crossbar prior to Bonucci&#8217;s late winner and was then sent off together with Manolas as tempers flared.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sport.citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/1412530887747_wps_92_Juventus_Argentinian_forw.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"1412530887747_wps_92_Juventus_Argentinian_forw\" src=\"http:\/\/sport.citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/1412530887747_wps_92_Juventus_Argentinian_forw.jpg\" width=\"634\" height=\"422\" data-wp-imgselect=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Juve, who named Andrea Pirlo in their XI for the first time this season after his recovery from a hip injury, had early claims for a penalty dismissed when Claudio Marchisio went to ground under a challenge from Manolas.<\/p>\n<p>A penalty did come Juve\u2019s way in the 26th minute, albeit in somewhat controversial circumstances. Rocchi appeared to originally award a free<em>\u00a0<\/em>kick when ruling that Maicon had handled Pirlo&#8217;s set-piece, before changing his mind and pointing to the\u00a0spot.<\/p>\n<p>The decision prompted fierce protests from Roma, with\u00a0Garcia sent to the stands, but\u00a0<strong>Tevez\u00a0<\/strong>kept his nerve after the commotion had ended to send\u00a0Skorupski\u00a0the wrong way.<\/p>\n<p>Roma drew level five minutes later, after Rocchi had given another penalty as a result of Stephan Lichtsteiner hauling\u00a0<strong>Totti\u00a0<\/strong>to ground off the ball.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"1412532520150_wps_99_AS_Roma_s_Juan_Manuel_Itu\" src=\"http:\/\/sport.citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/1412532520150_wps_99_AS_Roma_s_Juan_Manuel_Itu.jpg\" width=\"634\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Roma captain put his spot-kick in the bottom-right corner, ensuring Juve conceded their first league goal of the campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Life got better for the visitors a minute before half-time when Roma caught Juve cold with a free-flowing move that finished with Gervinho&#8217;s reverse pass finding\u00a0<strong>Iturbe<\/strong>, whose low drive beat Gianluigi Buffon at his near post.<\/p>\n<p>Martin Caceres then pulled up with a hamstring injury for Juve, but they were level at the break following another debatable\u00a0call from Rocchi.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"1412533446492_wps_105_Juventus_Leonardo_Bonucci\" src=\"http:\/\/sport.citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/1412533446492_wps_105_Juventus_Leonardo_Bonucci.jpg\" width=\"634\" height=\"422\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The official judged that Miralem\u00a0Pjanic had tripped Paul Pogba in the area, although there appeared minimal contact and the incident may have taken place outside the box.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tevez\u00a0<\/strong>once again showed unerring calm, placing his second penalty of the match into the bottom left-hand corner.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"1412533731136_wps_109_epa04433637_Leonardo_Bonu\" src=\"http:\/\/sport.citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/1412533731136_wps_109_epa04433637_Leonardo_Bonu.jpg\" width=\"634\" height=\"394\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Juve started the second half with more attacking intent, but Pjanic wasted a gilt-edged chance on the hour mark when he dragged wide from just close-range after good work from Gervinho.<\/p>\n<p>Morata then saw a header cannon against the crossbar, but Juventus went on to clinch\u00a0the points in superb style.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"1412532602616_wps_102_Juventus_players_celebrat\" src=\"http:\/\/sport.citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/1412532602616_wps_102_Juventus_players_celebrat.jpg\" width=\"634\" height=\"422\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A Juve corner was cleared to\u00a0the edge of the area and\u00a0<strong>Bonucci\u00a0<\/strong>let fly with an unstoppable volley that flew into the bottom\u00a0left-hand corner, though Roma will rightly feel aggrieved that Arturo Vidal &#8211; standing in front of Skorupski in an offside position &#8211; was not penalised.<\/p>\n<p>Frustrations then boiled over in an ill-tempered finish.\u00a0Manolas reacted angrily to a stern Morata challenge,\u00a0leading to a melee and red cards for both players.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Source: Goal.com<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Leonardo Bonucci&#8217;s 86th minute stunner saw\u00a0Juventus\u00a0snatch a thrilling victory as they beat\u00a0Roma\u00a03-2 in a contest that also saw Alvaro Morata and Konstantinos Manolas sent off late on.
