The Board Chair of the National Service Secretariat (NSS), \u00a0Gifty Mahama Biyira is unsure that the board’s orders for the Director and six others to step aside for investigations into massive corruption allegations at the Secretariat,\u00a0may not necessarily restore public confidence.<\/p>\n

However they are ready to implement recommendations of the Bureau of National Investigations, which is handling the matter.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026the BNI are listening and watching, they will know how urgent this exercise is and I know they will put themselves together to be able to work expeditiously so that we will get the report and implement whatever recommendations that are mentioned in the report\u201d<\/p>\n

The Governing Board of the Ghana National Service Scheme has directed the Executive Director of the Scheme, Alhaji Alhassan Imoro and his two Deputies, Michael Kombor, in charge of Finance & Administration and Sophia Karen Akuako, in charge of Operations to step aside.<\/p>\n

Other staff members at the Secretariat\u2019s Head Office have also been directed to step aside. They are: Fiifi Asubonteng, the Director of IT, Alhassan Iddrisu, the Director, PPME, Gloria Aku Mensah, the Ag. Internal Auditor<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”yS0FkscBl9ejQtfRdOsGDleE9jzDKih5″]The Greater Accra Regional Director, Seth Asiedu, and all other officers of the Scheme whose names have so far been cited in the on-going investigations are to step aside.<\/p>\n

The indicted persons have been ordered to step aside following\u00a0their involvement in the payment of GH\u00a27.9 million<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0to 22,612 non-existent national service persons\u00a0in more than 100 districts in July 2014.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Citi Breakfast Show Host, Bernard Avle, Madam Biyira said \u201cI cannot judge the actions that I have taken right now will restore public confidence, it is up to the public to judge me but I think that this is the first step as we wait for the report.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said the Secretariat will implement recommendations the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) will give after its investigations into the matter.<\/p>\n

Madam Biyira also expressed the hope the BNI will complete its investigations soon saying \u201d I have no idea of how long this will take but I think that this is an issue which is in the interest of everybody in Ghana.I believe that it an urgent exercise and they will treat it as such.\u201d<\/p>\n
