Amo Darko"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A former member of the Council of State, Reverend Dr. Nii Amo Darko has debunked assertions that members of the council are \u00a0just \u201c<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/02\/council-of-state-members-are-just-errand-boys-bagbin\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">errand boys<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u201d for the President.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Majority Leader of Parliament, Alban Bagbin on Wednesday described the members of the council as mere \u201cerrand boys\u201d for the president.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI don\u2019t support the current Council of State as presently structured and constituted, because it\u2019s just an appendage of the executive arm, you will see often the members of the council of state acting as representative of the president at various functions,\u201d Bagbin said while suggesting that\u00a0the Council should be made a second Chamber.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But Speaking on <strong>Eye Witness News<\/strong>, Rev. Amo Darko disagreed and argued that members of the council \u00a0play a pivotal role in advising the president on a number of issues affecting the development of the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;2OXsi006MjyCVRPs6OCT8cSqqVt6TBvo&#8221;]But Rev Amo who is currently a member of the Governing Board of the National Peace Council (NPC), disagreed with Mr Bagbin saying \u201cwe are not an appendage, we are not errand boys.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He added that \u201cof course there have been occasions where council of state members have stood in the stead of the President; I believe that it is an honour. It doesn\u2019t make him a member of the executive or an &#8220;errand boy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said that the framers of the constitution in their own wisdom couched the Council and gave it a role of being an advisory unit which depicts our traditional setting where the president acts like a king and the council as advisers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As to whether or not \u00a0to make it a second chamber, Rev Darko said \u201cthat depends on all of us as a country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cRight now we are practicing both what is prevailing in the UK and also in the US.
