The Progressive Nationalist Forum (PNF) has announced that it has also submitted a petition demanding the impeachment of the Commissioner of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to the Presidency.

A statement from the PNF signed by its spokesperson, Richard Nyamah stated that the petition which was submitted through their lawyers on Wednesday is to get the President to initiate steps to remove the CHRAJ boss Lauretta Lamptey.

It said: “We now believe firmly that our five-page petition of nine-point claims of grave misconduct, inappropriate exercise of office, serious misjudgment, breaches of laws and public trust, with its various accompanying documents will greatly assist achieve the desired outcome to preserve the reputation of CHRAJ…”

[contextly_sidebar id=”Ti7cEzBe4nJpyhvxruegr09Xoz2LdL55″]Nyamah noted that the forum was forced to file the petition due to the refusal of Lauretta Lamptey to resign.

The CHRAJ boss has come under intense pressure to resign after it was revealed that she had ordered an expensive renovation to be made on her official residence to the tune of GHC 182,000.

The renovation has been on-going for the past three years since her assumption of office in 2011.

The situation informed her decision to rent an apartment at the AU Village and later moved to lodge in a hotel which has now cost government a total of about $180,000 in rent.

These revelations infuriated some Ghanaians and institutions that have since called for her impeachment while others are demanding her resignation.

According to them, her continuous stay in office is believed to be affecting the credibility of the Commission.

The PNF’s petition is the second to be submitted to the Presidency for the processes of her impeachment to commence.

The Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh also filed a petition last week and according to the PNF, they are fully aware that a petition has already been submitted.

The PNF also indicated that it has also written separately to appeal to President John Mahama to “consider exercising his clear constitutional mandate to suspend the CHRAJ boss, soon as a prima facie determination of our petition is made by Her Ladyship the Chief Justice to kick-start investigations for her removal.”
