{"id":52783,"date":"2014-10-01T15:18:22","date_gmt":"2014-10-01T15:18:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=52783"},"modified":"2014-10-02T08:42:56","modified_gmt":"2014-10-02T08:42:56","slug":"expedite-work-on-200-shs-project-communities-plead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/10\/expedite-work-on-200-shs-project-communities-plead\/","title":{"rendered":"Expedite work on \u2018200 SHS\u2019 project &#8211; Communities plead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Beneficiary communities of the government\u2019s 200 Senior High School (SHS) project in the Brong Ahafo Region are appealing for work to be expedited.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Brong Ahafo Region will get seven out of the 200 Senior High Schools.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The National Democratic Congress (NDC), in their 2012 manifesto, promised to construct 200 community day High Schools across the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In order to demonstrate his commitment, President John Dramani Mahama in March,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/03\/02\/mahama-to-break-grounds-for-construction-of-50-new-day-shs\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">cut sod for the construction of the first 50 schools in Nyanoa<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span>, in the Upper West Akyem District of the Eastern Region after indicating the cost of the projects to be about GHC 71 million.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;eO5Ru4e0I21SnvYKN7hV0Xw3weVaP2Sv&#8221;]The sod cutting ceremony was replicated in other regions in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">About six months down the line, the project is yet to kick start in some regions \u00a0including the Brong Ahafo Region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Citi News<\/b>\u00a0Brong Ahafo regional correspondent, Kwadwo Brefo, reported that an observation made by the Deputy Minister of Education (in charge of pre-tertiary education), Mr Alex Kyereme showed that not a single block has been laid on any of the project sites three months <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/07\/21\/construction-of-community-high-schools-begins-in-ba\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">after a sod was cut for the construction of seven of such schools<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> in the region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Kwadwo Brefo added that the people in the beneficiary communities are however questioning when the project will commence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Although the contractors have moved their materials to the sites, they claim that they are awaiting a final inspection by the consultants of the projects before they start.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile it was hinted to\u00a0<b>Citi News<\/b>\u00a0that the contractors have so far the contractors have been given about 20 percent of the total cost of the projects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Godwin Allotey Akweiteh\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Beneficiary communities of the government\u2019s 200 Senior High School (SHS) project in the Brong Ahafo Region are appealing for work to be expedited.
