Former Black Stars forward, Augustine Arhinful, has told the Dzemefe Commission that he, together with another former Black Stars player, C.K. Akonnor and popular actor, John Dumelo, are yet to be paid by Cocoa Processing Company (CPC) for using their images for chocolate adverts done to support Ghana’s campaign during the 2014 World Cup.<\/p>\n
Arhinful, Akonnor and Dumelo and some other personalities were commissioned by the former Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah as ambassadors to support Ghana’s World Cup run in Brazil.<\/p>\n
But, appearing on Monday before the Dzamefe Commission, Arhinful stated that he and his colleagues had not been given any monies for adverts.<\/p>\n
Arhinful: “We came wholeheartedly to come and help raise funds (for the World Cup campaign). CPC which was one of the sponsors wanted to use C.K. Akunnor, John Dumelo and me for an advert. We were promised that we would be given GHC 10,000 each for the adverts.<\/p>\n

But as we speak, a drive through Accra will show billboards with me and the other guys trying to eat chocolate.”<\/p>\n
Justice Dzamefe: “Really?”<\/p>\n
Arhinful: “Yes”<\/p>\n
Justice Dzamefe: “And you were not paid anything?”<\/p>\n
Arhinful:”Yes but we have not complained because we felt it was honour (to do it for the country).<\/p>\n
Justice Dzamefe:”CPC?”<\/p>\n
Arhinful:”Yes. Those who produce the Golden Tree Chocolate.”<\/p>\n
Moses Foh-Amoaning:”They promised you that you were going to be paid, you did the adverts but they pretended they could not run the adverts at that time because it was close to the World Cup. And now, they are running the outdoor adverts on billboards.”<\/p>\n
Arhinful:”Yes, my Lord. I was in the United States last summer with my kids on vacation \u00a0and I received calls that I was seen eating chocolate on billboards. Something that we were told was too late to do? Well, that is life.”<\/p>\n
Moses Foh-Amoaning: Are you not going to find out why and demand what is due you? I think you should see your lawyers because you carried out your part of the agreement and they must do theirs after using you in their adverts. They need to pay you.”<\/p>\n
Popular stand tickets?<\/b><\/p>\n
Another former Black Stars player, C.K. Akunnor, also appeared at the Commission today and revealed that the World Cup Ambassadors commissioned by the the former Sports Minister were given low-grade tickets for matches at the 2014 World Cup.<\/p>\n
Akonnor told the Commission that the ambassadors thought they would be given some privileges such as VIP tickets for their work but things did not turn out that way and the trip was not that positive.<\/p>\n
“My Lord, our experiences in Brazil were not too good. For the first match (against the USA), we were given popular stand tickets. On our way to the match, we met an official of Kenpong Travel and Tours who gave us VIP tickets.<\/p>\n
We had issues on the day of our second match (against Germany) because on our way back to the camp after the match, we got stranded at the airport because the flight was not ready so we ended up sleeping at the airport.<\/p>\n
For the third match (against Portugal), I personally did not go to the stadium after what had happened on the previous occasions. I watched the match on television, my Lord.”<\/p>\n
Akonnor said the ambassadors were disappointed with the turn of events and even wanted to come back because in his words, they “were very furious and wanted to go back home.”<\/p>\n
He also said that they were not doing anything concrete in Brazil.<\/p>\n
