The Ministry of Health has announced taken delivery of 10,000 Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to be distributed to some hospitals across the country.

Prior to this announcement, a letter from the Ghana Health Service (GHS) directed all hospitals and health facilities across the country to procure their own PPEs.

The health facilities were also introduced to a private supplier of the PPEs.

The directive of the GHS angered the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) who said this goes to show the apathetic attitude Ghana has towards the fight against the Ebola disease.

[contextly_sidebar id=”uk6qmYfJ34HleQAjWWoHAj9u1FMrSwx6″]The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Manhyia South Constituency, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also described it as an embarrassment and criticized the government for contracting a private supplier to do the distribution when it could have taken the initiative to do so.

But the Director General of the GHS, Dr. Ebenezer Appiah Denkyira has defended the directive saying it was to ensure hospitals are protected in the interim should they be confronted with the Ebola disease.

Speaking to Citi News, the Public Relations Officer of the Health Ministry, Tony Goodman mentioned that the PPEs will be distributed this Thursday.

He announced that on Thursday, October 2, a distribution exercise will take place at the forecourt of the state house where all regional hospitals and teaching hospitals will be given PPEs.

Goodman also defended the GHS’ directive saying, “whatever directive that was given by the Director General is still part of the national response to be able to get enough PPEs for health facilities nationwide.”
