Residents of Winneba and its surroundings towns in the Central region have had their electricity restored.

They are however expected to undergo a temporary load shedding exercise until all burnt down equipment at the GRIDCO substation are repaired.

Areas with no power supply now include Apam and Ajumako.

They have been without electricity for almost 48 hours due to a fire outbreak which ravaged the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) substation at Winneba junction plunging major parts of the region into darkness.

[contextly_sidebar id=”ykJhq4Ard7K32Il9SZTZlhsIvJAcfDGU”]The Central Regional Minister, Aquinas Tawiah Quansah in an earlier interview with Citi News said electricity supply to all affected areas across the region will normalize by Thursday.

Engineers of GRIDCo and Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are currently on site and have managed to restore power to Kasoa, Swedru and Winneba.

Speaking to Citi News, the Public Relations Officer of the University of Education Winneba, Steve Van Kamasa confirmed that power has been restored.

He indicated that the university could not have run its operations on the school’s power plants because of the high cost of petroleum products.

Kamasa stated that the school authorities would have been forced to run a load shedding exercise on campus with their power plants.

A local reporter in Agona Swedru, Akwesi Koranteng visited the burnt site and reported that the engineers are working tirelessly to rectify the problem.

The General Manager of the Winneba ECG office, Mr. Quarshie said the power which is being distributed to the affected area was picked from Kasoa “but since it is not sufficient, we are just shedding it…until the whole power is restored.
