Whereas others have finished naming their streets, the Builsa South District Assembly in the Upper East Region has just begun, few days to the deadline given by President John Dramani Mahama<\/p>\n
President Mahama directed Chief Executives of all the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to undertak the street naming exercise within 18 months or risk losing their jobs.<\/p>\n
Clearly, the district is behind schedule since the deadline will elapse by the end of September, 2014.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”6JqbIvlJOdiwcjEsxK6FwkjfD5mx7uw6″]Speaking to Citi News<\/b>, the Chief Executive for the Builsa South District Assembly, \u00a0Elizabeth Jane Afiuc explained that the district started the exercise late because of the delay in appointing a new District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe district had started relatively late, not because it is a newly created district, but also because of the delay in getting a substantive District Chief Executive. The team, notwithstanding, has been able to break the odds to begin something,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Talensi District Assembly has successfully completed the exercise.<\/p>\n
In the Builsa North District, the DCE, Bonaventure Adangabey said 60 pecent of the project has been completed in the area saying, \u201cWe are about meeting the deadline. The names that are on now, they have been properly validated by all the stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Julius Debrah recently declared that about 125 MMDAs have so far completed the exercise<\/p>\n
