{"id":51161,"date":"2014-09-26T07:07:45","date_gmt":"2014-09-26T07:07:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=51161"},"modified":"2014-09-26T13:28:32","modified_gmt":"2014-09-26T13:28:32","slug":"npp-returns-to-court-over-injunction-suit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/09\/npp-returns-to-court-over-injunction-suit\/","title":{"rendered":"NPP returns to court over injunction suit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Accra Fast Track high Court will today hear an application in which two members of the opposition New Patriotic party( NPP)\u00a0 are seeking an interlocutory injunction on the party\u2019s October 18 congress.<\/p>\n<p>Two \u00a0members of the party, Rexford Agyei Frimpong and Oppong \u00a0Kyekyeku sought an order against the National Council to comply with the provision of the NPP constitution and fix a new date for the congress.<\/p>\n<p>The court application follows calls from flagbearer aspirants, Alan Kyerematen and Addai Nimoh that the party\u2019s leadership should reconsider the date for the congress.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_12932\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12932\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_1503.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12932\" alt=\"Kwabena Agyapong is General Secretary of the NPP\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_1503.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_1503.jpg 640w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_1503-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-12932\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kwabena Agyapong is General Secretary of the NPP<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The two say the October 18 date\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/09\/16\/we-cant-campaign-in-48-days-alan-nimoh\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><b>will not give them ample time to reach the over 140,000 delegates<\/b><\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0across the country.<\/p>\n<p>The last time they were in court, counsel for the plaintiffs pleaded for more time to study the response from the party against their suit.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;8SKxV2XeAsJz4j6bQ6s6WodZr3XA2tYd&#8221;]Nana Akufo-Addo\u2019s camp has in response to the call said that they don\u2019t agree with the arguments from the two candidates because according to them, the situation is like a \u201c90 minutes football game, we all have the same time to compete and win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s court case will bring finality to what is likely to offset the October 18 congress.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, an Accra Fast track High Court has set September 30, 2014 to rule on a motion filed by the NPP praying the court to throw out an application filed by a member of the party David Hoezame.<\/p>\n<p>Hoezame is challenging the status of the national council of the party.<\/p>\n<p>According to the party led by its lead counsel Godfred Dame, the case brought before the court\u00a0was frivolous and lacked merit.<\/p>\n<p>He argued that Hoezame failed to adhere to the dictates of the constitution of the party which spells out clearly how grievances by members of the party should be dealt with.<\/p>\n<p>In August, a\u00a0Fast track High Court\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/08\/29\/npp-congress-injunction-application-dismissed\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>dismissed an application for an interim injunction<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>against the party\u2019s Super Delegates Congress.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An Accra Fast Track high Court will today hear an application in which two members of the opposition New Patriotic party( NPP)\u00a0 are seeking an interlocutory injunction on the party\u2019s October 18 congress.
