Flood waters have cut off over 30 communities in the Adaklu District of the Volta region from other villages, after torrential rains hit parts of the region last week.<\/p>\n
The flood waters have completely submerged three major roads leading to the district capital; Adaklu Waya and surrounding villages.<\/p>\n
Residents from neighbouring communities who work at the district capital have been trapped.<\/p>\n
<\/a><\/p>\n The situation has also affected health delivery in the district, forcing residents to carry health workers shoulder-high to cross the flood waters to their centres to take care of patients.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n The fate of most students in the district also hangs in the balance since the only secondary school in the district; Adaklu-Waya SHS is currently inaccessible.<\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The member of parliament for the area Hon. Kwame Agbodza, and the chief of the area Togbui Lablulu Tegbeza V\u00a0 have described the situation as \u201cdire,\u201d which require swift and lasting solutions.<\/p>\n \u2018\u2019We are only appealing to the agencies involved that they should\u00a0 come to our aid because when schools reopen, the students wouldn\u2019t be able to go to school\u2019\u2019 he lamented in an interview with citifmonline.com<\/strong>.<\/p>\n He further said \u2018\u2019we appreciate all that government is doing for us as a people but we believe that this particular situation needs a lasting solution.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n Togbui Lablulu Tegbeza V noted that \u2018\u2019this river in 2011 got flooded in a situation like this, a woman was trying to cross it in the night and got drowned and died.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
