{"id":49916,"date":"2014-09-22T06:40:35","date_gmt":"2014-09-22T06:40:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=49916"},"modified":"2014-09-22T10:30:22","modified_gmt":"2014-09-22T10:30:22","slug":"vra-to-cut-back-on-power-generation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/09\/vra-to-cut-back-on-power-generation\/","title":{"rendered":"VRA to cut back on power generation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite the seeming <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/09\/21\/nigeria-strike-suspended-gas-supply-to-resume\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">good news <\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span>from Nigeria that gas production has resumed for onward production to Ghana, the Volta River Authority (VRA) says it will cut back on power generation from October.<\/p>\n<p>This follows the low water levels flowing into the Akosombo dam.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority(VRA), Kirk Koffi, the decision will help safeguard the dam.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;lhaemisEZZXhhuQPsiE5dDwzynn19qjB&#8221;]Mr. Koffi made this known when Energy Minister Emmanuel Ammah Kofi Buah toured the facility.<\/p>\n<p>The VRA however said it will ensure that production plants at Aboadze are producing enough by October in order not to worsen the current power crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur expectation is to cut back the four machines by early October, by which time we think our unit in Takoradi as well as the Tico unit would have been on board and then when we are on board, we cut back to four machines, in which case, the supply situation will not worsen,\u201d Mr. Koffi explained.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, officials at the Aboadzi thermal plant have assured maximum production of power to support the national grid.<\/p>\n<p>Currently the T3 plant operated by VRA has been shut down due to unavailability of Gas while the T1 plant is undergoing some repairs.<\/p>\n<p>T1 is expected to\u00a0produce about 300 megawatts of power when completed.<\/p>\n<p>The General Manager of Takoradi, Nana Osafo Adjei on the other hand revealed that the T2, which contains an existing capacity of 220 megawatts has only one unit while the second unit which is SC 2 has been down for a major inspection as a result of the fault that occurred on the bearings of the gas turbine.<\/p>\n<p>He however stated that the long term service providers are working around the clock to resolve the problem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe system is down as we speak right now but the long term service providers are working very feverishly to return the second unit back on line by October 3, 2014 to add an additional 110 megawatts to complete our current storage capacity of 220.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Despite the seeming good news from Nigeria that gas production has resumed for onward production to Ghana, the Volta River Authority (VRA) says it will cut back on power generation from October.
