Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has given officials of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) up to next week, to offer explanations on how some $600,000 was reportedly spent on constructing a fence wall for the Ghana Embassy in Burkina Faso.

The Committee noticed the said amount during its review of the Auditor General’s Report.

The Deputy Ranking Member of the Committee, George Loh, drew the attention of the Committee during the appearance of a Deputy Governor of the central bank before the committee on Thursday.

In an interview with Citi News, George Loh said he believes the $600,000 figure was on the high side therefore, the BOG officials must provide further details by close of next week.

He said the committee would like to know “what kind of wall was it, what kind of fencing was it and how sophisticated was it?”

“The information we believe should be in the domain of the Bank of Ghana or the Controller and Accountant General Department so we’ve asked them to go and reconcile and bring us the information we need,” he explained.

He insisted that the PAC wants the details because “as a representative of the people, we want to know whether the money which was quoted properly utilized and whether Ghana got money value for money.”
