The much anticipated October 18 national delegates\u2019 congress of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) may suffer a set back as two card-bearing members of the party are seeking a court injunction to stop the exercise.<\/span><\/p>\n

The two; Rexford Agyei Frimpong and Opong Kyekyeku say the October 18 date is a violation of the party\u2019s constitution and favours one of the aspirants, Nana Akufo-Addo.<\/p>\n

The suit comes days after two aspirants; Alan Kyerematen and Francis Addai Nimoh petitioned<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>the leadership of the party to reschedule the date for the congress.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Citi News<\/strong> however, the National Chairman of the party, Paul Afoko indicated that the October 18 date was set by the national council which is the second highest decision is making body of the NPP.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”t8Av7GkBuwcLzEmFoBfw5j5gnqTo8wDi”]Therefore, he was optimistic that \u00a0if some aspirants are appealing for a review of the decision, an amicable solution will be sought to the matter.<\/p>\n

He also mentioned that the petition by Kyeremanten and Addai Nimoh will be referred to the National Council for advice.<\/p>\n

He explained that \u201cin every house, we\u2019ve got elders and even though we the executives are the ones who have been given the power, the mandate…so we felt that it is only proper to ask our elders to handle this petition.\u201d<\/p>\n

Afoko was hopeful that by close of day, the elders would handle the matter \u201cto give us a report on what the outcomes have been.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cI think our elders can sit down with them and listen to them what their concerns are and see whether they can find the way forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the camp of Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed surprise at the petition by Kyeremanten and Addai Nimoh seeking a review of the October 18 congress date.<\/p>\n

Spokesperson for Nana Addo, Mustafa Hamid told Citi News<\/strong>, all the aspirants are \u201csufficiently popular\u2026so I indeed thought that such a hugely popular person [Alan Kyeremanten] among the 140,000 people who will be very excited about October 18.\u201d<\/p>\n

He nonetheless stated that Nana Addo is unperturbed by latest developments and will abide by whatever decision is taken by the national council of the NPP.<\/p>\n
