Employees of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Ashanti region have been compelled to sleep in their offices to attend to the overwhelming number of clients seeking to undergo the biometric registration of the NHIS card.<\/p>\n
Hundreds of people have been queuing up at the offices of the NHIS\u00a0 to renew or apply for membership.<\/p>\n
Personnel have had to work under pressure due to large number of applicants, some of whom either stay in queues for hours, or have their appointment rescheduled many times.<\/p>\n
The managment have deployed more staff to work between 10 and 22 hours to attend to clients.<\/p>\n
The Bantama District officer of the NHIS, Acheampong Korankye who confirmed this to Citi News said the workers are now on running a shift system to attend to the huge numbers.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe run something like a shift system. We almost work within 20 to 22 hours. We start work 5: 30 am to sometimes 12am the next day,\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe first batch will come at 5: 30 and will close at 2: 30 pm. The next batch will take over at 2: 30 pm till the last person leaves the venue,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
The management have also divided the 25 administrative districts of the scheme into five clusters to reduce the pressure.<\/p>\n
Over 500 military personnel and their families at the Central Command in Kumasi have been going through the process since Tuesday.<\/p>\n
