The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Assin-Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has told Citi News, he is not bothered by the numerous threats on his life by some members of his party.

The NPP fire brand has on several occasions complained about attempts by some persons to kill him following a revelation he made about a grand scheme by some leading members of the party to poison flagbearer hopeful, Nana Akufo-Addo.

The said individuals include; former Chief of Staff, Kwadwo Mpianim, former Health Minister, Dr. Richard Anane and two other unknown persons.

[contextly_sidebar id=”49wj7paxatVM4OYdGrWgfA6rZnygeU2g”]The Assin-Central lawmaker subsequently alleged that Mr. Mpianim’s bodyguard openly threatened to kill him for the revelation he had made.

Speaking to Citi News however, the outspoken NPP member said he is not worried because every human being is destined to die.

“No matter what, we are going to die one day and the easiest death that I always say is when somebody pulls a gun to shoot you. You will wiggle for about five minutes so I am not afraid to die,” he said.

He served notice to persons after his life that he will not stop speaking the truth “just because somebody is threatening me…I am not bothered at all.”

According to him, he is well aware of the party bigwigs who are seeking to kill him but he refused to disclose their identity.

“I know and I am not going to tell you and I want to be double sure that these are the guys,” he remarked.

Factions in the NPP

Ghana’s main opposition party has been experiencing internal wrangling after the election of the current national executives who are said to belong to one faction of the party.

Political watchers have opined that the party’s troubles stem from the seeming existence of two main factions within the NPP; the Nana Addo faction and the Alan Kyeremanten faction.

After the exit of the immediate past national executives who were perceived to belong to the Nana Addo faction and the swearing in of the new executive believed to being part of the Kyeremanten faction, the party has since been struggling to maintain internal peace.

The current executives have also faced stiff opposition following the restructuring of some party structures.

This resulted in a bloody clash at the party’s headquarters in Accra in August.

The cracks seem to be deepening as the NPP prepares to head to the polls on October 18 to elect a flagbearer with reports of victimization of delegates’ supporting the candidature of Kyeremanten.

Nonetheless, the NPP’s national council and some party elders have called for calm with an assurance to Ghanaians that the challenges will be surmounted to enable them win the 2016 general elections.
