{"id":48523,"date":"2014-09-17T11:44:29","date_gmt":"2014-09-17T11:44:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=48523"},"modified":"2014-09-17T11:45:29","modified_gmt":"2014-09-17T11:45:29","slug":"top-industries-force-staff-to-resign-or-forfeit-redundancy-packages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/09\/top-industries-force-staff-to-resign-or-forfeit-redundancy-packages\/","title":{"rendered":"Top Industries force staff to resign or forfeit redundancy packages"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5em;\">About 90 percent of workers at a plastics company in Accra,\u00a0Top Industries, have been forced by the management of the company to write their resignation letters or forfeit their redundancy entitlements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This was revealed when the leadership of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU), visited the company to meet with the workers.<\/p>\n<p>According to the workers, the fear of \u00a0losing their redundancy package, as had been threatened by management, had led them \u00a0to write their resignation letters.<\/p>\n<p>A few workers who spoke <b>Citi News\u2019 <\/b>correspondent Elvis Washington<b> <\/b>on condition of anonymity expressed their displeasure at their treatment by the management as they feel they deserve better for their service to \u00a0the company.<\/p>\n<p>The acting General Secretary in charge of operations, Morgan Ayawuni, told <b>Citi News<\/b> that the situation was unacceptable as the company had no right to force the workers to write resignation letters.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;y3Z75VgCIpSRSl5kyyfTPNM2AOBsWGGw&#8221;]\u00a0He confirmed that the workers had \u201csubmitted their own resignation letters not based on their own conviction that they want to resign, but for fear that they might be victimized.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that ICU had asked them to \u201chold on while the national unions intervene on their behalf.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Ayawuni assured the workers that they were going to \u201censure that the right thing is done in accordance with the labour act.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ICU has been very vocal on the treatment of workers in the country in recent times and in June complained about the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/06\/27\/rate-of-public-sector-lay-offs-alarming-icu-officer\/\" target=\"_blank\">rate of public sector lay-offs<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/06\/27\/rate-of-public-sector-lay-offs-alarming-icu-officer\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0<\/a>.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Edwin Kwakofi\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>About 90 percent of workers at a plastics company in Accra,\u00a0Top Industries, have been forced by the management of the company to write their resignation letters or forfeit their redundancy entitlements.
