{"id":47658,"date":"2014-09-15T11:38:50","date_gmt":"2014-09-15T11:38:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=47658"},"modified":"2014-09-15T12:39:30","modified_gmt":"2014-09-15T12:39:30","slug":"tamale-residents-angry-over-sachet-water-price-increment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/09\/tamale-residents-angry-over-sachet-water-price-increment\/","title":{"rendered":"Tamale residents angry over sachet water price increase"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/07\/05\/sachet-water-to-sell-at-ghp20-from-july-7\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">An upward adjustment<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> in the prices of sachet water is creating confusion between sellers and consumers in the Tamale Township.<\/p>\n<p>Accordingly, bottle water prices have been increased as producers struggle to maximize profit.<\/p>\n<p>A packet of sachet water is now selling at GHC20 pesewas whilst some sellers sell three packets for GHC50 pesewas.<\/p>\n<p>A bag of sachet water containing 30 pieces which was sold at GHC1.50 pesewas is now selling between GHC3.00 and GHC3.50 pesewas depending on the producer.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;VxCtuXt7YCd7zrSNazq86688AQ3qDCM3&#8243;]For instance, sachet water produced by Voltic Mineral Water Company Limited previously sold at GHC2.50 a bag now cost GH3.50 pesewas.<\/p>\n<p>This increment comes a month after the Government Statistician, Dr. Philomena Nyarko revealed that the Northern Region recorded the highest regional year-on-year inflation rate of 21.1 per cent for July 2014.<\/p>\n<p>In her analysis, Dr. Nyarko attributed the situation to increases in the price of utilities, fuel and depreciation of the cedi against the major currencies especially the Dollar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi News<\/strong> witnessed uproar among consumers, sellers, retailers and producers of sachet water in the Tamale Metro Area.<\/p>\n<p>Some producers blamed the situation on high utility tariffs especially electricity which is charged in line with the automatic adjustment formula.<\/p>\n<p>As a need coupled with the high poverty levels associated with most Tamale residents, consumers called for price reduction.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, some retailers of bottled water have threatened <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/09\/02\/retailers-vow-to-resist-bottled-water-tax\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">to resist any moves by government to introduce new taxes<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> on bottled water.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Abdul Karim Naatogmah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An upward adjustment in the prices of sachet water is creating confusion between sellers and consumers in the Tamale Township.
