{"id":4736,"date":"2014-03-08T11:18:21","date_gmt":"2014-03-08T11:18:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=4736"},"modified":"2014-03-08T11:18:21","modified_gmt":"2014-03-08T11:18:21","slug":"dont-use-varsity-campuses-for-political-activities-prof-bour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/03\/dont-use-varsity-campuses-for-political-activities-prof-bour\/","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t use varsity campuses for political activities \u2014 Prof. Bour"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_4737\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4737\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/prof-Bour.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4737\" alt=\"Professor Daniel Bour\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/prof-Bour-300x224.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/prof-Bour-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/prof-Bour.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4737\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Professor Daniel Bour<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Vice Chancellor of Valley View University (VVU), Professor Daniel Bour, has advised students to refrain from using university campuses for political activities.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that while they had the right to belong to various political parties, they should not use the campus \u201cas a venue for political campaigns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is necessary for students to be serious with their studies to justify the huge expenses parents and guardians are incurring on them,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matriculation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Prof. Bour was speaking at the 8th matriculation ceremony of the VVU at Oyibi on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The matriculation was to formally admit 1,738 fresh students into the university.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s number exceeded last year\u2019s number (which was 1,426), indicating an increase of 21.87 per cent in the intake of students.<\/p>\n<p>The VVU emphasises on academic, vocational and technological excellence for service to God, humanity and with the vision to be a centre of excellence for Christian education.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Expansion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Addressing the gathering, the vice chancellor said the university was expanding its territory to ensure that applicants would have access to quality and holistic education.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Bour said the university would establish a distance learning centres in Takoradi in 2015 and another at Bibiani.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the National Accreditation Board (NAB) has upgraded the Kumasi and Tamale distance learning centres to campus status.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Programmes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Four programmes: BA Communication Studies, BSc Environmental Studies, BSc Actuarial Science and MA Education will be implemented in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Bour said the university had plans of introducing Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme at the Nyaniba Centre of the university in July, this year.<\/p>\n<p>He encouraged students to abide by the rules and regulations and the dress code of the university, which discourages indecent exposure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe objective of the dress code is to ensure modesty.
