The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has kicked against the feeding fees announced by government for Senior High schools.<\/p>\n
According to them the GHC3.30 amount is inadequate to provide three square meals for the students.<\/p>\n
The Conference of Heads of Assisted Senior High Schools (CHASS) have rejected the amount saying they cannot provide nutritious meals with the amount.<\/p>\n
\u00a0But the Ministry of Education insists that CHASS was part of the deliberations that approved the new fees.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”L96ZoHV03fdbYpl6uAPBKE9tciynPGq7″]The GHC3.30 feeding fee means that breakfast, lunch and supper will each cost GHC1.10.<\/p>\n
It is an\u00a0increment of 50 per cent in the GH\u00a22.20 the government approved for the 2012\/2013 academic year.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Citi news<\/b> the President of NUGS, Samuel Darkwa Binfoh called on the ministry to increase the sto ensure that the students are fed quality food.<\/p>\n
He said \u201cIf you say that you are feeding somebody three meals in a day and if you are talking about nutritious meals for students who are studying and the amount dis 3.30 pesewes, it’s just ridiculous. I don\u2019t know the miracles that we expect our headmasters and matrons to adopt in order to be able to feed our younger brothers and sisters very well with such amount of money.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a related development,\u00a0 Principals of Colleges of Education in the country are threatening to provide their students with two square meals instead of three because they believe the amount of\u00a0GHC4.50 per student is too small.<\/p>\n
NUGS is however urging the Ministry of Education to increase the amount.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are also pleading with them that that policy that they want to feed our colleges of education \u00a0twice a day to rescind the decision it since it will make education very difficult and unattractive,\u201d he intimated.<\/p>\n
