The campaign manager for Alan Kyeremanten, flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has disclosed that the team is in talks with other aspirants who are dropped out of the race for support.

Kofi Dzamesi, who was once the Volta Regional Minister under the Kufuor administration, on Eyewitness News said: “We have been talking to them and if they feel that this is where they want to belong to, they are most welcome.”

At the party’s August 31 super delegates’ congress, two aspirants were eliminated from the flagbearership race while the remaining five qualified to contest the final elections.

However, two other aspirants, Joe Ghartey and Kofi Osei Ameyaw have pulled out of the race.

Although Ghartey has failed to reveal which candidate he is rooting for, Ameyaw has disclosed he is supporting two-time presidential candidate of the party, Nana Akufo-Addo.

Dzamesi is nonetheless convinced that Ameyaw’s open support will not affect their campaign.

According to him, Ameyaw “has his constitutional right either to contest or to support a candidate so if he decides that he is throwing his weight behind somebody, who knows, maybe somebody might also throw his weight behind some other candidate.”

[contextly_sidebar id=”ZpW2hVOdqbSF2umPtluHaFyMZLxKMBFJ”]He explained that by calculation, the 741 delegates out of 141,000 party delegates who voted on August 31 do not “really represent the strength of the 141,000 delegates, not at all.”

Kyeremanten’s campaign manager served notice to the remaining candidates that his candidate is “poised to contest and we are ready for battle.”

He pointed out that the power rests in the hands of the 141,000 party delegates because “they are the ones who are supposed to go and decide and say this is the person we want to become the flagbearer of NPP.”

Dzamesi was optimistic that the Kyeremanten will emerge the winner at the party’s national congress on October 18 saying, “looking at the track record of Alan Kyeremanten and the way he is connected to the grassroot, we believe strongly that he is the one the people want, he is the one that the polling station executives are crying for and that is the more reason why we are in this contest to give them the power to vote.”

He however remarked that if the other candidates are willing to support Kyeremanten’s candidature, “they are most welcome; we are ready to receive everybody who wants to come and support us so we are still waiting for them.”

Three aspirants will on October 18 battle it out to win the flagbearership position of the NPP.

They are; Nana Akufo-Addo, Alan Kyeremanten and Francis Addai Nimo.
