The People\u2019s National Convention\u2019s (PNC) General Secretary, Bernard Mornah has said that he is not challenging the enforcement of the \u201cNo Verification No Vote\u201d provision in the name of the party.<\/p>\n
He said his decision to go court is in the public interest and not that of the PNC.<\/p>\n
Mornah is in court to challenge the provisions of the Constitutional Instrument (C.I) 75 which makes biometric verification a prerequisite for voting.<\/p>\n
His decision comes on the back of a recommendation from the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) to the Electoral Commission (EC) to maintain and enforce the \u201cno verification, no vote\u201d provision.<\/p>\n

The PNC leadership has however disassociated itself from the law suit because it holds a different view from that of its General Secretary.<\/p>\n
In an interview on\u00a0Eyewitness News<\/strong>, Mornah said he has taken a position on a national issue which is devoid of the party\u2019s stance.<\/p>\n \u201cI am going to court as a natural person and therefore have not carried with me the PNC tag. It is not the party\u2019s position, it is my position,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Mornah observed that it is a great source of worry for a verification machine to be the final determiner \u201cof whether you can vote or not.\u201d<\/p>\n According to him, if this provision is made to work on election day, then the nation will be in danger because \u201cwe are sacrificing the liberties and indeed, we are ensuring that electoral justice is denied simply because a machine may fail.\u201d<\/p>\n He added that it is therefore imperative for him to pursue the matter whether the party he belongs to is either in favour of it or not.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana
