President John Mahama is <\/b>hopeful the upgrading and expansion of the Tamale Airport will make air travel to the Northern part of the country easier and comfortable for Ghanaians.<\/p>\n

According to him, the project, when completed will also facilitate the movement of aircrafts at any time of the year.<\/p>\n

\u201cCurrently during the harmatan when visibility is low, they fly you almost to Tamale and because of visibility they turn around and tell you the plane cant land and they take you back to Accra. With the new navigation systems, the Airport will be opened 365 days a year and aircrafts can land at anytime.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the completion of this project, it will be possible for aircrafts to vist Tamale, land and take off at night. The runway light will be working,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”RPgG9odl5h8VrYO4hqFHmG8xrKMrMrvD”]President John Mahama on Tuesday cut sod<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>for expansion works to begin on the Tamale Airport in the Northern Region.<\/p>\n

The contractural agreement for the project, which is expected to be completed in September 2015, was signed between the management of the Ghana Airports Company Limited and the Brazilian construction company and subsequently rectified by parliament in September last year.<\/p>\n

The first phase involves the extension of the runway and the installation of a complete lighting system to be able to accommodate bigger aircrafts.<\/p>\n
