A rejected New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer aspirant, Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng, has said that though he did not make it to the selected final five, he is not perturbed.

“I am ok and in good spirit; I am not down at all,” he told the Daily Graphic in a telephone interview yesterday.

The former Member of Parliament for the Mfantseman West Constituency managed 1.76 per cent of the total votes cast in the last NPP Special Electoral College, which effectively meant he could not make the list of top five to contest in the final national delegates’ congress scheduled for October 18, this year.

[contextly_sidebar id=”wUtRZWw4kIozcEOUjpeABS7cD8YNymDS”]He thanked the 741 delegates who voted on Sunday, saying, “I thank you for the opportunity of having a personal interaction with you at your homes.”

In spite of the results, Mr Asamoah Boateng said “we have a relationship for the future.”

He recalled that he began the presidential race with God and “campaigned on refreshing change; that did not happen but in all things you give thanks to God.”

He described the exercise as an initial step of a long and winding journey, and he had a positive mindset for the future and his political career.

He indicated that he was a positive, forward-looking person who had started a journey, and God would see him through to the end.

The NPP, according to Mr Asamoah Boateng, must find a way of coming to power, and that he had the belief that all efforts would require unity and not divisiveness.

Concerning the outcome of the Special Electoral College, he had learnt a lot during the contest to lead the party.

It was clear from the interview that Mr Asamoah Boateng still had presidential ambitions but will just state “once I put my teeth into something I bite and breathe at the same time like a British bulldog, so I know what I’m about. I don’t start something that God does not want to finish with me.”
