marked a year since the Supreme Court\u2019s verdict<\/span><\/a> <\/strong><\/span>declaring John Dramani Mahama as the legitimate winner of the 2012 Presidential election.<\/p>\nThe Supreme Court in the ruling made some recommendations for electoral reforms and hoped that the Electoral Commission would implement them and help eliminate some of the flaws in Ghana’s electoral system as exposed during the election petition case.<\/p>\n
Madam Owusu, however, believes that the issues from the previous general elections that were exposed during the hearing have not been resolved by the EC.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe EC\u2019s conduct during the petition itself demonstrated that, even with the foreign registrations they conducted themselves, there were issues. They have gone ahead without dealing with the flashpoints in 2012 and have done this limited registration,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n
Madam Owusu told Citi News<\/b> that she believes the register needs to be audited as there is \u201ca risk of having figures that nobody will have confidence in without a credible register.\u201d<\/p>\n
She added that the inability of the Electoral Commission to \u201cfix the fundamentals of our electoral system,\u201d could lead to \u201cviolence in subsequent elections.\u201d<\/p>\n
