{"id":44484,"date":"2014-09-03T15:22:09","date_gmt":"2014-09-03T15:22:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=44484"},"modified":"2014-09-03T15:30:38","modified_gmt":"2014-09-03T15:30:38","slug":"govt-to-pay-potags-august-salaries-ablakwa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/09\/govt-to-pay-potags-august-salaries-ablakwa\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov\u2019t to pay POTAG&#8217;s August salaries &#8211; Ablakwa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Deputy Minister in charge of Tertiary Institutions, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has assured polytechnic teachers that government will soon pay their August salaries that were frozen as a result of their earlier strike.<\/p>\n<p>The Polytechnic Teachers Association (POTAG)\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/05\/15\/potag-declares-nationwide-strike\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">declared a strike on May 15<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> to protest government\u2019s decision to scrap the Book and \u00a0Research Allowance.<\/p>\n<p>The Association however<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/08\/26\/potag-calls-off-nationwide-strike\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"> called off its three month long strike<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> after a series of negotiations with government.<\/p>\n<p>Government after paying the May, June, July \u00a0salaries of the striking teachers, decided to freeze\u00a0their August salaries for no work done. On Tuesday the <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/09\/02\/well-strike-again-if-our-august-salary-is-not-paid-potag\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>teachers threatened another strike<\/strong><\/span><\/a> if government does not release their salaries.<\/p>\n<p>But speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, Mr Okudzeto urged the teachers to be calm saying \u201cWe believe that the August salaries will be paid. What we\u2019ve called for is patience because it takes time to process these payments. From what we are gathering from the Controller and Accountant General\u2019s Department the August Salaries will be paid so they just have to exercise patience with the Controller so that these salaries are processed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>POTAG threatened to strike again if government refuses\u00a0to pay them their August salaries but the minister urged POTAG not to disrupt the academic calendar since issues surrounding their August salaries will be resolved soon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernment is guided at all times by the fact that we need to ensure normalcy, that the academic calendar should not be disrupted and that all times let us create a very peaceful atmosphere so that teaching and learning can go on on our campuses.
